Our Organic Practices
While Our Yards Farm is not Certified Organic we do follow organic practices. This means we don't spray any harmful chemicals or grow any GMO crops (we eat this food too). We also recognize the importances of biodiversity on the farm. We plant many different varieties of veggies as well as plants that beneficial insects and pollinators rely on. We also aim to build our soils through cover cropping and composting and protect our wildlife and waterways.
Our Yards Farm is a suburban farm, the first of its kind in Camden County, NJ! We're based out of Audubon, NJ and are excited to be growing hyperlocal food for our community. Everyday the US loses over 3000 acres of farmland due to development, yet our population is growing exponentially. In the last 20 years alone the US has lost over 8% of its farmland to suburban sprawl. So how can we sustainably provide healthy, affordable, local food to our country when our farmland is disappearing?
We believe part of the solution is through Suburban Farms. In the US, 40 million acres of land are currently lawns. Think about how much food we could grow on that land!
We hope to empower our customers by creating a community of people all seeking healthier alternatives to the conventional grocery store model. How encouraging is it to see where your food comes from, to know and trust who is growing it and to know what methods they are using to grow it. Lets redefine what a farm is together.
Find us every Saturday at The Collingswood Farmers' Market!
Market runs 8am-12pm May-November.
